Monaco is a very small country in southern Europe.

His son, Jacques, aged 2, is his heir to the throne. Although his twin sister, Gabriella, is older by two minutes, the male child takes precedence in Monaco.

In elections everyone over the age of 18 can vote.

The currency in Monaco is the euro. Monaco is not a member of the European Union but does have a special relationship with them.

The total population of Monaco is 30,581 people, making it the 43rd largest country in Europe by population. However. Monaco has the greatest population density, see to the right, in the whole world.

Of this number 15,714 are females and 14,867 are males.

A person from Monaco is called a Monagasque.

To be a citizen of Monaco, the father must be a citizen of Monaco. If the parents are not married then the mother must be a citizen and the father unkown. It is not sufficient to be born in Monaco. You have to live in Monaco for 10 years before you can begin to apply for citizenship.

There is only one city in Monaco, the capital Monte Carlo.

Monaco spends 1.0% of its total income on education.

Children usually start school at age 6 in Monaco. Primary education is for five years until age 11 and secondary education must continue till 18. This may be followed by further education at a university or college.

Generally the school year consists of 3 terms and starts in the first week of September and finishes at the end of June. There is usually a 2 week break at Christmas and Easter, and a one week break in the middle of each of the first two terms.

We have no figures for the number of people who are able to read and write by the age of 15.

At the moment we are waiting for data on youth unemployment in Monaco. We will upload this as soon as we have it. Our guess is that it is quite easy for young Monagasques to find work but are we correct?
