We are beginning to see more about the culture of these times. We know for a fact that the buzz word was round. As we said, homes were round and burials mounds, at the start of the period, were also round. Stone circles are by definition round and there were lots of them too. People would build a mound with a ditch around the outside, usually for ceremonial reasons. These places were known as henges. Just for your information, these archaeologists can often spot possible ancient sites by looking at markings on the ground. Even after thousands of years, crops or grass growing in a field will look different depending on whether it has grown over earth or an old stone building or wall. Also at this time possessions, like swords and jewellery, have been found left in rivers and marshes. Many of the things that were found were broken which could have been to stop them being stolen by others or it could have been part of a ritual. They could also have been left as gifts to the god of water. Many of the feasts and festivals will have been held to celebrate various gods and the gods of sun and water would have been among the most important. Toward the end of the Bronze Age, there were less burial mounds; so maybe people were now being cremated when they died.
