Back to Owlbut's History of England

For eighty six years of this century, the country was ruled by Kings, three of them, called George. With incredible intellect, historians have called this the Georgian Age. More power was now in the hands of the elected members of parliament. For ordinary people this was a time of great change. Britain became a big world power with a large empire overseas, while at home both the Industrial and Agricultural Revolution exploded. In 1707 the Act of Union joined the countries of Scotland and England, together with Wales and Ireland, into one kingdom.

At the start of this period of history, the estimated population of England (to the nearest million) was 5 million or 1,375,000 houses on our strange method, explained in the Mesolithic Age introduction.
