The third twenty five years of the twentieth century. It was a time of massive change in daily life. Yet, amongst all the change, we had one monarch who reigned for 24 of those years and then all of the next 25. It was a time when young people began to make their voice heard. They may not have changed all that much but they tried.

At the start of this period of history, the estimated population of England (to the nearest million) was 38 million or 9,625,000 houses on our strange method, explained in the Mesolithic Age introduction.
