January 2021

Could I first suggest you might like to read the other two posts in this section. They were written last year during school closures but, particularly the "Home Learning" one, are just as relevant now.

However, things are very different now. If what I read is to be believed, sorry but I do feel these days I have to add this, then there are far more pupils in school than during closures last year. This makes life even more difficult for heads and teachers because all of these attendees need to be supervised and helped to learn but, at the same time, staff need to be available to both prepare and work with pupils on-line or even through paper-based learning material possibly delivered by post.

It would also appear that there are many pupils who still do not have access to the internet or a suitable device to use. With this in mind, the BBC has decided to become even more active and will offer 5 hours of educational material, 3 hours for primary children on CBBC each morning and 2 hours for secondary children on BBC 2 each afternoon. This is most welcome for everyone and should be applauded. Yes, I have some minor misgivings but now is not the time to discuss these. Let's see how it all goes from January 11th.

As a result of this decision by the BBC, I have decided that our site will not offer any special material during closures, unlike last time. We will continue with the two weekly uploads we have been doing since September. We will look at the situation again during the February half-term.
