Take Me Back To Another Time

Who Can Do It

We suggest this project is done by students between the age of 8 and 15. This is an individual project and can be done at home or by individuals in a classroom situation. This is the historical equivalent of the "If I'd Been Born Somewhere Else" project.

What You'll Need

You will need access to a word processing package and, possibly, a scanner.

How To Do It

With this project we want you to use your imagination, plus check out some facts, and think what your life would have been like if you had lived in a different time period in England. You can use our “Times Past” section, here, to select a time period.

Then you can use some of the info on the timeline, hoots and story pages for that period to think about what life may have been like and do some more research yourself.

We would like your completed project to cover the following sections.

facts
Why did you choose this period?
What do you think you would have liked about this period?
What do you think you would have disliked about this period?
What one invention from the present would you have wanted to take back to this period? How do you think it might have changed lives?
Using the five topics that Owlbut covers in his hoots section, Homes, Clothes. Food. Daily Life and Culture, give us a brief description of your life.

All of the above should be written up in a report of between 1,000 and 1,500 words.

These instruction in PDF format and only intended for teachers can be found here

When You've Finished

If you are doing this project on your own at home, you can email a copy of the finished project to us and it may find its way on to our site. Send it to homeprojectsi@owlbut.co.uk That would be owlingly brilliant. Off you go.

We are asking schools to set up a special part of their school website called Owlbut's World of Learning and all work done by pupils should be uploaded there. Each project, if you decide to do more than one, should have a separate section. Send the link to olderowlettesprojects@owlbut.co.uk.

We will start uploading projects sent to us and links from schools in September 2025. The projects and links will be accessed from this page.
