December 2025.
An end of year message from Molly and Richard.
This year, at the School of the Air, we have uploaded 202 videos on our little site run by two passionate and dedicated people, This
amounts to a staggering 1800 minutes of learning material but that learning material has been specifically designed to inspire our followers to be
curious about what we have shown them, use their imagination and go off and create something themselves. We would estimate from the learning material
we have created that means another hour or so per video, meaning another 12,120 learning activity minutes.
Those figures, except the estimate which we believe is in no way unreasonable, are facts but we just wanted to frighten ourselves a bit.
Over the year we have had a total of around 80,000 views. Assuming that all those 80,000 views were different people then our material has provided
over one billion minutes of fun, inspiring, innovative learning minutes or about 18½ million hours. And while we know each view wasn't a different
person we have no idea how many people watched more than once or how many families or schools using the same URL watched our material. Even if we take a
conservative 10% of those figures we have still provided nearly 2 million hours of our unique learning material and all for free. The average school
provides about 1,000 hours of learning in a year, say to 500 pupils, making a total of half a million hours, excluding homework.
Our aim has also been to get more children outside and experience, indeed use, the awe and wonder of nature and to allow the learning to be
tailored to the individual child, less structured and catering for the difference there is in every single child.
OK, the first paragraph was fact, the rest OBR-type estimates but not unreasonable. Molly and I are off to lie down for a while. However,
the chance would be a fine thing as we're already preparing for next year which will be even better because of our incredible, amazing, unique journey
which you can follow and be inspired by.. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this.
