Back to Owlbut's History of England

If you assume that history is something that happens in the past, which is a fair assumption, then, for Richard, this period of history and the last isn't really history. He has lived through it all. He went from a time in 1951 when his family didn't have a fridge, a freezer, a washing machine or a television to a time when he had all those plus a computer, a mobile phone and could almost talk to anyone from anywhere. Oh dear, he must be old.

At the start of this period of history, the estimated population of England (to the nearest million) was 44 million or 11 million houses on our strange method, explained in the Mesolithic Age introduction.
