Timeline

Grass grows quickly, trees take longer but over the seven hundred years since our first entry, forests would have appeared all over the country. The hunter gatherers would have noticed this change gradually and, as they still couldn't write, they would have heard about the differences from their elders and then passed it on to their children. Several other things would have happened too. Animals are harder to hunt in forests as they are pretty good at hide and seek. People would go off hunting in a forest and never come back so stories would be told about strange events. These people worshipped all kinds of gods and spirits. They wouldn't want to go too deep into these spooky forests so finding the animals, their food, became harder.

There would be many different trees growing. Some, which like lots of water, would grow next to rivers and coasts, while others which didn't need so much water would grow on other soil inland. Try and guess the names of these trees and which are water-loving trees and which aren't. Of course, all trees need some water to grow and survive. Some just need more than others. You can tell the water-loving ones because we've given them loads of water.

When you've had a guess, click on a tree and see if you are right. Then try another one.
