In September of 1486 Henry VII and Elizabeth
had their first child, a boy called Arthur. Three years later Arthur was betrothed to Catherine, the daughter of the King and Queen of a large part of Spain. Being
betrothed is like being engaged; the two people promise to marry each other. Henry hoped this marriage, when it happened, would mean there was no chance of any wars
with Spain. Catherine's parents, who ruled Spain, also paid Henry a large sum of money for their daughter's marriage.
Another thing Henry had to do was to try and restore some of the royal wealth which had been wasted on all these wars. He was a very clever man in that
respect and once again the crown began to get rich.
In 1489 Henry and Elizabeth had a daughter called Margaret. You will see later that Henry arranged a marriage for her too. Henry and Elizabeth had a
few more children but only two survived, another boy called Henry, of whom we will hear an awful lot later, and another daughter called Mary.
