The Tudors
Timeline

In this year, over in Germany, a man called  Karl Benz is said to have invented the first true motor vehicle. There had been steam cars before this but Mr Benz invented the petrol driven car. You can see it looks more like a tricycle and you steered the one front wheel by using the handle at the top of the long pole at the front. Good luck, Lewis Hamilton.

Soon more and more people were manufacturing cars and then they arrived in England. Until 1896 a man with a red flag had to walk in front of any car thereby rather limiting the speed you could drive. This rule also amused me because you could presumably ride your horse through a town at any speed you like and I think being hit by a horse going 30mph might cause the odd bit of damage to your person. Anyway, until 1896, unless you ran over the man with the red flag, not to be encouraged, your car wasn't any faster than walking.
