Back to the Nearly All Romans calendar

Title
Timeline

Villas had started appearing all over the English countryside though very few were as posh and large as the ones in the south east. Not many had mosaic floors or underfloor heating.

In the big towns, Colchester, London and St Albans many of the houses and shops were still timber framed. In this year most of St Albans, (called Verulamium by the Romans) was destroyed in a major fire. It is likely that it started as a small fire in a house or shop but possibly there was a heavy wind and the fire took hold. It took many years to restore the town to how it was.

Over the next 45 years the Roman way of life continued throughout England.
