Henry was trying to rule over a
peaceful country and in 1237 he signed the Treaty of York with Alexander II of Scotland. This fixed the Anglo-Scottish border and it has remained unaltered
ever since, with the exception of the disputed town of Berwick. Berwick alternated between English and Scottish control before its final capture by the
English in 1482. In fact they are still a bit confused as, despite being in England, their football team plays in the Scottish League.
