Timeline

At the start of his reign Henry IV found someone else who didn’t get on with him. As soon as 1400 began, the Welsh, thinking it was a 2.00pm kick off, started a revolt. Henry, who felt he was getting on a bit at 34, sent his 14 year old son, also called Henry, to lead the campaign. It took 9 years to stop the Welsh and by then Henry was 23. Just wanted to introduce a little bit of Maths here so we could claim this is a cross-curricula resource.

The Welsh were led by a man called Owain Glyn Dwr who had actually served in Richard II's army in the 1380s. It may be that he felt some loyalty to Richard, still yelling for food in Pontefract Castle, and that was why he started the rebellion. In 1404 the French, still occasionally fighting England in the 100 years’ war, gave Owain some support but it was no good. Owain managed to hide for a while and cause a little bit of a problem but he stopped doing this in 1416 when he died but, in reality, it was all over by 1409.
