20 March 1413 and Henry IV dies and his son, now aged……..well work it out yourself, became King. As you know he was called Henry and with little thought and no imagination he became Henry V.

Old Henry IV had only reigned for 14 years and he not only had the revolting Welsh to deal with but also the Scots kept popping over the border for a look, possibly capturing Berwick a few times, and that Hundred Years’ War was still going on and on and on.

Furthermore Henry IV had fallen out with his son, the soon-to-be Henry V. IV had sacked the future V from his ruling council as they had disagreed over certain matters. This had been in 1411 but shortly after that date, Henry IV's health began to get worse and his son began to have the real control of the government. Families!!!

This was a period of history that appeared in several Shakespeare plays, notably, amazingly, Henry IV Part 1, Henry IV Part 2 and Henry V. One day you might want to read these or, better still, go and watch them.
