Around about this time it appears that
many of the wealthy Britons, those who had worked with, or been appointed administrators by, the Romans started to flee England.
Firstly they may have headed down to Devon and Cornwall but then they seemed to have gone to north west France, then called Gaul.
This area was called Armorica by the Romans. Eventually the people who lived there were known as Bretans, the French word for Britons and the
area is known today as Bretagne, the French word for Britain.
