As far as clothing was concerned, there was hardly any change from last time. Obviously it was easier to make clothes from animal skins when you had the animals in the enclosure next to your home. However, the full range at the Stone Age Matalan was quite limited. In fact no one used it as there were no such things as shops and everyone made their own clothes. It is almost certain that nobody would have any underwear, just these top clothes of animal skins. Some people also grew flax and then extracted the long fibres from within the wooden stem of the plant and either spun or wove them into linen. Sadly flax is an annual plant which means you have to replant it each year. As people had a little bit more time, no longer having to run after their next meal and catch it, some of that time was spent making jewellery out of animal bones and, believe it or not, teeth. People made the antlers from deer into combs for their hair (the people’s hair not the deer’s). People began to take a pride in their appearance and find ways to make themselves look more attractive. If you think how fashion changes so quickly these days, it is amazing to think these people’s clothes hardly altered over thousands of years. Would you want to wear what your parents thought was fashionable. Of course my family have all been dressed in feathers for years.
