Britons were totally under Roman control. Life for women in Roman times was often hard. Women were expected to run the home, cook meals, and raise children and, if they were poor, also work as a slave to the wealthy women, for no wealthy Roman lady was expected to do any work. They still ran the home but their day would consist of meetings with the head cook, the accountant who managed their spending and others in order to tell them what she wanted. She might also have a say in the design of the house. The family might be looking to have a new mosaic and she could be asked about the subject and then supervise the people doing the work. If her husband was having a feast with guests, his wife would plan the menus with the cook, discuss seating with the housekeeper and meet with her servant to talk about hairstyles and make-up. Essentially, she did little but tell others what to do. A wedding of a child would be a grand occasion. Girls could marry at 12, boys at half past. Sorry, bad owl joke, boys could marry at 14. Marriages were often arranged between families. Some Britons would learn the skills the Romans had brought to England, such as making that mosaic. In the towns the British would work in the shops owned by the various merchants. Some boys would go to schools or have tutors and people learned Latin so they could write. Girls didn't go to schools. Basically, if you behaved and worked hard, you now had a peaceful life.
