The Roman culture gradually disappeared. It didn't happen straight after the Romans left but, over time, that way of life was gone. The early Angles, Jutes and Saxons didn’t write. They went back to worshipping many gods. Four of the main ones were Tiw, Woden, Thor, and Friya, who we know better as Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Most people were cremated when they died. Warriors and kings might be buried in a pit with all their possessions which might include their favourite pets, still alive. Owls make bad pets by the way. You have to remember though that it was normally those who were left behind who decided what was buried with the dead. It is possible that some relations buried less wealthy people with more expensive goods to try to make them look better in the after life. This may also confuse archaeologists today. Bathhouses no longer existed. People would wash in a river, wearing their clothes. Some tribes used soap made from animal fat, ashes and pee. That reminds me they went to the loo in the woods or in the bushes. There were some laws that ruled their lives. If a member of your family or of your tribe was murdered, you or your tribe could then kill a member of the murdering family or tribe. If you decided against this, you could seek compensation, maybe in jewellery or in goods, such as cattle.
