Viking clothes were, just like in times before, made from animal skins, wool and linen. Viking men would wear woollen trousers and a shirt made of linen. A tunic would be worn over the shirt and fastened around the waist with a leather belt. Females would wear a dress, also made of wool or linen. Again a tunic would partly cover the dress and these would be fastened with brooches. Both would wear cloaks which were lined with feathers or fur. Vikings were very good at weaving and, of course, unlike the Romans, would not have been surprised by the cold weather in England at winter time. In fact, to a Viking, it may have been positively warm. It was the women and children who would make wool into yarn. Vikings liked jewellery and would wear rings on fingers, bands around the arms and also around the neck. For footwear they would have soft leather shoes. In winter wealthy Vikings would have shoes lined with fur while the poor wore woollen socks. Warriors would wear chain mail tunics or padded leather jackets. Helmets would often be made of metal and the only time they might have horns on was for religious ceremonies; never in battle.
