By now the very formal clothes of the first half of this century had completely disappeared. Suits were no longer an essential piece of clothing for offices. That tradition still remains in some places and you could see this best in the way the then Prince Charles was seen in public. It was very unusual to see the Prince of Wales not wearing a suit and tie; it is just as unusual to see his sons wearing one. In this period track suits became popular leisure wear for both sexes and, in the 1980's, the shiny, coloured shell suit appeared. Richard says he had one. I am not asking for pictures. Children's clothes and specialist shops for them were everywhere. It was all more casual and during this period even entertainers ceased to wear formal dress on television and stage. Fashion continued to change all through this period with many different styles and changes happening yearly. Manufacturers needed to sell more clothes so they needed to convince their customers that what they bought last year was no longer in style even if it hadn't worn out.
